Profitable Cycle Trading System - Part 1

Post by Tradingadvice in Currency Trading

First things first - this is not some revolutionary new method. Its in fact a very simple trading methodology based on a few time honored principles and indicators. The core of this method owes its origin to the work of Walter Bressert and is based on Walter Bressert’s cycle indicators.

Principle 1

The trend is your friend - you’ve heard it a million times before and guess what - its true. This method only trades in the direction of the trend. Furthermore it only trades when the trend of both the short and medium term time frames are in the same direction (more on this later). Why? Because we want to pinpoint entries which move quickly in the direction of profitability. Entries in the direction of the trend can be precise. Counter trend trades are often sloppy and very difficult to time.

Principle 2

Time is as important as price - what does this mean? The large proportion of traders absorb themselves in following price action, looking for a set up which matches what they see. While this may work for traders that have learnt phenomenal levels of focus, detachment and self discipline, for the developing trader this way of trading often leads to hallucinations (seeing things that aren’t there), overtrading and getting caught in the chop. When we follow the principle that time is as important as price, we shift the emphasis of our focus. We place our focus on timing a trade setup, watching for the entry to set up using our timing indicators (cycles) and only when we see that the time is right do we look for price confirmation and a precise entry point.

The effect of this is:

1) We stay fresh because we can relax our focus when our timing indicators show that the time is not right.

2) We can avoid getting caught in the chop and all the frustration (and loss!) that doing so entails

3) We focus all our energy and concentration on effectively executing the signals that have the highest probability for success.

Principle 3

Use multiple time frames. In this method we trade on multiple time frames simultaneously. We use a short term chart (3 or 5 minute) and we use a medium term chart (13 or 20 minute). We only enter trades when those two charts are confirming each other (ie. That their trend and cycle direction are the same). We also use a longer term chart (60 or 102 minutes) to keep an eye on the bigger picture and we use a very short term (1minute) to effect our entries.

If the short term trend or cycle is up and the medium term trend or cycle is down, what is going to happen? They will fight each other and this manifests as chop. What happens in chop? It’s very hard to time a precise entry, which is what we are all about.

What happens when the short and medium term trends/cycles are in the same direction? They support each other, they strengthen each other and this leads to decisive price movement.

The key here is to understand this: price moves up and down all day. We are going to let a lot of it pass us by - we don’t care. Why? Because what we are interested is pinpointing precise entries that will immediately move in our direction and give us a profit. You may see price moving strongly in one direction while you are on the sidelines, and you may say “damn, why aren’t I getting a piece of that?”. The question is could you have timed the entry or would you have placed 2 or 3 losing trades trying to get in, exhausting and frustrating yourself in the process? We are looking for ease, stress free entries that have a high probability of success.

The Video Marketing Revolution After YouTube

Post by Paully1111 in Viral Marketing

Right now, we are poised at the start of a new revolution in Internet marketing. Just look at the controversy and strife that online television has caused for Hollywood. Their writers have gone on strike over residuals from shows that are aired on the Internet. For them, this is a multi-million (if not billion) dollar issue! If Hollywood is this fixated on the power of the Internet, there must be something very useful (profitable) to it. So, to keep your company viable in the future, you need to embrace the technology of tomorrow, today.

Through the use of video marketing, you have the potential to significantly increase the hits to your website, visits to it, and (of course) sales for your company. And, don’t be concerned that online video is merely a fad like Betamax or video disks were. Today, more and more cities are wiring their downtown areas with Wi-Fi. As computer speed and power goes up, it will only become easier for people to view videos on their computers.

Want further proof? Perhaps you’ve heard of Netflix, they sure run enough ads these days. Their big marketing point is that they send movies right to your house. Well, now, in some cases, you don’t even have to send off for one of their movies, you can just watch it on your home computer! Think of that, sitting at home, watching an entire movie, and never even having to bother to get it in the mail.

If one Internet firm can send movies, you can certainly make use of some short videos to help market your website. And, when you consider how busy people’s lives are these days, watching a video is far easier and faster than sitting down and trying to read even a short report.

Yet, video marketing does not mean you just shoot a commercial about your product and that’s that. That’s not going to cut it with today’s Internet Generation. Consider which videos are the ones that get the most hits on places like YouTube and MySpace. They don’t even have to be the best singers or performers; it’s the ones that catch the eye, that entertain. If something is unique and unusual and makes people smile, they are going to stop and have a look.

For your video to be a success, it must be viral. Now, that word has a certain connotation; a virus is something we all fear getting, and not just in our bodies. No, these days that can mean anything from spyware to adware to a destructive program that ends up crashing your entire computer.

No, you don’t want to create that; you want your video to be viral, to spread across the Internet because people view it, enjoy it, and pass it along. In so doing, they will get the word out on your company, and what you have to offer. Try making a video that is funny or controversial, or is highly appealing. That can be the thing that catches people’s eye and gets them to watch.

Fire Marshal Discovers Arson–And Humanity

Post by Flashni in Career

The job of a fire marshal in the United States is often like the job of a private investigator: thankless and fascinating. But a private investigator’s role is usually punitive: figure out who’s scamming the insurance company, say, or where the ex-convict who broke parole ran to. A good fire marshal, on the other hand, never forgets one critical rule: fire safety comes first, no matter what.

Paul Maldonado, fire marshal for the State of Texas, was called in to investigate the recent fire at the Austin mansion of Governor Rick Perry. In retrospect, it must have seemed inevitable that the building would be targeted for arson. Perry, former lieutenant Governor under President Bush, inherited much of the ill will that the student population in Austin held for the Texas Republicans, and his reign as Governor was marked by occasional scandal and a rising discontent among the electorate. The 2007 announcement that the Governor’s mansion would be remodeled to the tune of $10 million–including a state-of-the-art fire suppression system–must have been, in retrospect, the last straw. On the night of June 8, 2008, that straw burst into flames.

Maldonado and his video surveillance team knew who the suspect was–roughly, of course. He fit the established profile: young, twenty-something, athletic. Angry, even. In a press conference, Maldonado proposed that this anger was the cause of the arson. He might be angry “at the death penalty– and other political issues,” Maldonado said. “His feelings of anger and frustration will be noted by people who know him.”

A government official, a mysterious fire, a political radical, a confrontation. In most situations, this would be a clear opportunity for power and authority to assume their roles, for the government official to make clear, punitive statements. But that’s not what Maldonado–a fire marshal, after all, did.

“To the person or persons responsible for this crime I would like to relay a message,” said Maldonado in the same conference. “We are concerned with your safety.”

He went on to explain: the video footage showed a man with some experience throwing incendiary devices. Fire is a terrible thing to experiment with, warned Maldonado. The arsonist chose a dangerous means of sending a message to the governor–dangerous not only to the mansion, but to the arsonist. And more: Maldonado said that he appreciated, above all, the willingness of the arsonist to wait until the Governor was away, until the mansion was deserted, to set his fire.

“We will not forget that,” the fire marshal said.

The investigation goes on, of course. But what it reveals about the investigator is almost more fascinating than the eventual identity of the culprit. It’s rare to find a public official who truly concerns himself with what’s really important in criminal matters: the threat to public safety, and the value of human life. It takes a fire marshal, in the end, to say that he appreciates his quarry for valuing human life.
