How was your day? Did you wake up this morning with the feeling that you just wanted to stay in bed all day and not bother to work again? Did your day end with you hoping it is the last day of the week when your week has just started?

We can say that the feeling of not wanting to get up from bed is due to some previous sleepless nights, too much activities the day before or hangover. Being so restless after a day’s work can be due to having a hectic day or not having enough sleep at night. Both can also be due to not being happy with what you do.

Very few people are lucky enough to immediately land on a path to their dream job. Few people have their first jobs at their dream company. Few even get a job that they wanted.

Of course, if one wants to be a partner at a law firm, one doesn’t just have to finish law school, pass the bar and be hired as a partner. He or she has to work hard for several years. But a bar passer can be fortunate if he or she is offered a job by a reputable law firm. Many lawyers find it hard to get a job that allows them to practice law.

So how can one be happy in their jobs? Here are some tips.

* Look for a hobby.

You may not be able to use your interests or skills in the job in which you are currently employed, but you can always look for other options to practice them.

If you love writing, perhaps you can be a freelance writer, start a web log (blog) or submit your works to publishing companies. Doing something you enjoy relieves you the stress of doing something that doesn’t catch your interest.

It could also be something that you can look forward to at the end of each task at work, that you will be excited about successfully finishing each assignment at work. It’s like giving you a reward for each job well done.

* Look for a challenge.

Some people don’t feel like going to work because their daily work life has been monotonous. A secretary might just have to spend her day typing letters and receiving guests, and this can sometimes be a dull task.

However, she can try to make herself better by learning a different language that she can use when speaking with foreign guests. Moreover, learning new skills can also help in getting a promotion and a raise.

* Spend time to relax.

Many people do not really dislike their jobs, but just spend so much time at their desk or at work that they get burnt out.

Doing a hobby, reading a book, seeing a movie, and spending time with family and friends are good stress busters. Also, forget your diet sometimes and just reward yourself with a scoop of ice cream or chocolate.

Or if you really wanted to stick to your diet, just take a walk in the park, visit places that you’ve never been to, do things that you’ve never done, or just play with your dog. After all, animals were proven to reduce stress levels and blood pressure.

* Change your job.

If you have tried all of the above and still feel the same, probably, it time to change your job. Maybe, it’s some of your company’s practices that don’t work for you, and then transfer to a different company but have the same job.

Or if you really like your company, but you don’t like your job, maybe you can talk to your human resources personnel about options for transferring to a different department. Or perhaps, you are looking opportunities for growth.

Always make research by asking the HR staff and by checking online on how you can increase your qualifications so you can get a promotion.

Changing jobs can be risky, especially if you are jumping to a different field. You may initially be given a job that is below your qualifications, be given a lower salary than what you were previously receiving, and you will have to undergo an adjustment process. So do this only if you are left with no other options with your current job and company.

Looking for a job is a stressful and tiring experience, spending days on end trawling through recruitment websites and constantly searching can often leave you disheartened and demoralised.

All this time you have friends and family criticising you for being unemployed and not having a job; the longer it goes on, the harder it seems to get back into work. The advantages of living the life of riley are there, but not many of us are millionaires and there are few of us who can afford to be out of work for an extended period of time.

When searching for a job, recruitment services can be an alternative to undertaking the laborious task of job hunting yourself. Some however see recruitment services as their personal job hunter; this however is a common misconception. When you submit to recruitment services they will not pursue a course of action that will see them search for a job day and night until you find yourself in employment. They are not your personal recruitment expert and will usually only call you when they have a job that suits your capabilities and skills.

That is how recruitment services work; they have a list of prospective employees who have filled in forms showing what kinds of jobs they would be interested in and details of the qualifications candidates possess. The second part of their business includes companies who are looking to recruit and will employ their services to find suitable candidates.

If the interests and qualifications you have coincide with the needs of the employer, you will be cross-referenced and highlighted for that specific job. Sadly, if your interests and qualifications do not match any of the jobs in the database, it is unlikely the job offers will come rolling in.

To increase your chances of success it is worth utilising as many recruitment services as possible. If you pin all your hopes on one it is unlikely you will experience any success. Looking for work is a game of probability, by joining as many recruitment services and applying for as many jobs as you can, you increase the chances of returns on applications and job offers.

Keeping your own efforts up is vital, it may seem that employing recruitment services is the easy way to find a job but it is still worth pursuing jobs and vacancies under your own steam, a lot of the time it is your own efforts that will yield the most success.

Being proactive is vital when in a job hunt, it is easy to become demoralised and then sit back and not care anymore. Especially when benefits seem an enticing way to keep you on or above the breadline.

My advice however is to be proactive, even if you only do a couple hours a day, as long as these hours are spent searching with intent, that is not a problem. You should see recruitment services as more of a complimentary effort outside of your own job hunting activities, they will not do it all for you and pursuing your own course is essential.

Getting a good idea of what you want to do is also helpful, recruitment services do not like to deal with applicants who have little idea what industry they would like to enter. The perfect candidate for an agency is someone who has experience in a certain sphere of an industry with a clear idea of the job role they are pursuing. For anyone who is trying to change their job role, or even the industry they are working in, they may find recruitment services somewhat apathetic to their goals.

The services recruitment agencies provide are extremely worthwhile, but they will only be successful for a small number of their clients. If you have an uninspired approach to job hunting and have no clue what industry or type of job you would like to enter you will be better pursuing jobs yourself. That said, as the job hunting game is all about probability, increasing your chances in any way is highly advisable.

Tips For Getting Better College Grades

It does not matter if you are enrolled at a small college or a student at a large university. If you want to improve your grades and raise your grade point average, here is what you need to do:

1. Create a study plan. Divide up a total amount of weekly study time according to how much time you are likely to need to devote to each subject. Draw up a weekly schedule. Find out when large projects are going to come due and include extra time for them in the calendar. This will make it easy to decide when to start work on each project.

2. Do your homework. Grades are very often based on timely homework hand-ins. Keep up with your assignments and turn them in on time.

3. Ask your teachers for suggestions to help you learn more and improve your work in areas where you are weak.

4. Learn from your mistakes. Getting a bad grade can help you figure out where you went wrong and to avoid making the same mistake again. This will allow you to do better in the future.

5. Get a tutor. If you seem unable to keep up with a particular subject, get help from a tutor to catch up. This could be a classmate, a senior, or someone appointed by the school. Some schools also have assistance available on campus through places such as writing centers.

6. Study with friends. Getting over inertia and actually beginning study or homework can be tough. Create or join a study circle. Meet friends and do your work together.

7. Attend All Your Classes. Most students end up skipping classes. If you want good grades, however, you must attend most of your classes:
-It allows you to absorb classroom material just by sitting in the classroom, and following and participating in the lectures and discussions.
-It allows you to make your presence noticeable and can help you to form a mentoring relationship with your professors.
-Professors often have bonus participation points that are awarded to students who are active in class discussions.
-It allows you to earn attendance points and can directly impact your grade.

8. Understand the expectations of your professors. Learn the class syllabus handed out during the first week and stick to the deadlines and the requirements.

9. Communicate with the professors if you are struggling and unable to keep up. The professor may not be aware of your difficulty, so meet the professor away from class and ask for the help you need.

10. Organize. You can easily get swamped by the many due dates, team meetings, and so on:
-Use a planner.
-Use the system once you set it up.
-Keep all papers like homework, tests, and class papers accessible.
-Don’t throw out old homework or tests; you may need them to study for future tests.
-Tackle the harder work first so that you have enough time to complete it.
-Take enough breaks. You can try rewarding yourself by taking a break for completing a large or difficult task.
-Break more difficult or complicated projects into smaller, more manageable pieces, assigning deadlines to each part.
-Do not overextend. Don’t get involved in more clubs and organizations than you can manage.

What To Consider Before Deciding To Move For Work

For some graduates the looming prospect of returning home after having living away at university halls of residence can either be depressing or exciting. More so looking for a job in your local area proves more difficult than one would expect. Often, the only option for getting your foot on the career ladder can mean moving away from home permanently. My decision to look for jobs in Sudbury was because of trying to get a step ahead into the world of work.

Many graduates have experienced the woes of unemployment after graduating. Some may be unfortunate enough as to feeling confused about what they want. My own experiences of searching for jobs and applying to various placements were always a stressful time. I often felt that I was handing out my entire life details with no positive outcome. It became apparent that I needed to reconsider my options and start looking away from my local area.

Having lived in London for a number of years (during and after studying for my degree), I decided to search for a new place to live, preferably on the other end of the over ground train line. I chose to look further afield, but without the prospect of moving far up north, but near local amenities and with good transportation links. It was through my researching that I came across advertisements for jobs in Sudbury.

Even though I had had experience in moving away from my parents’ home, this was the first time that I was to make a decision on completely starting afresh and find a place to settle down. Opting to research jobs in Sudbury meant that I was looking to commit to living in Sudbury long-term. Before I could make the jump, I had to better prepare myself for what was to follow. Therefore, I began a lengthy process of researching and plenty of travelling from North London to Sudbury.

Sudbury was an unfamiliar territory for me; I had to find out more about the area. Reading website articles was not enough for me, so I took a gamble. I booked a week off from work and as I had just finished my course, I looked up rental accommodations and made a reservation for the week. This would give me the chance to see for myself what living in Sudbury would be like.

This was indeed a learning experience for me and I now know the decision to move was the right one. People looking to move away from their home may indeed find the prospect of moving very frightening and often overwhelming. There are no two ways about it but giving yourself the time to find out as much information as you can on your chosen destination.

The best way to approach this is to consider where you would like to move to, and what sort of an area would you like to live. Ask yourself whether you would prefer a quiet countryside area or a busy cosmopolitan city. With reference to employment, you should prepare a CV or seek advice from any job agencies on how to improve your job prospects. Sometimes it may help to register with the local recruitment agencies in your chosen area, prior to moving to secure yourself a position.

Once you have a clear idea of what you are looking for and have found a place that best appeals to you the following things should be considered; job market in the area, access to public transport, nearest emergency services (hospital, police station, fire station etc), local community, rental accommodation or property prices, living expenses and networking opportunities. It helps to spend a short amount of time in the area and get a better idea of what it would be like to live.

The most important point in moving is having the ability to meet new people, making new friends and settling into the town. For some this is even more daunting than actually moving which is why it is always vital to allow yourself time to think about the decision you make.
