Give Your Children An Alternative Gifts For Kids

Posted by BillNBPI in Children

For kids, receiving a present is a momentous affair regardless of the time of the year. Whether its Christmas or birthday, gifts are always treasured. For that upcoming party which will mark a significant event in your childs life, try some of these alternative gift ideas from Chris Robertson (Live Habitat Gifts) and Tony Mikael (ATV for kids).

Live Habitat Gifts

Kids can learn a lot about the important things in life by observing animals in live habitats. One gift product that has been very popular for years is the ant farm. Ant farms give children a glimpse into how the ant society really works underground.

Kids can watch as the ants create their tunnels, gather and store their food, protect the queen ant, and work together to keep the ant family alive and well. Though they are very small, ants are often called a small army and ants are frequently used in describing good work ethic. As your child observes his ant farm, he will learn values about work and play while enjoying his tiny new found friends!

Other popular live habitats include frog habitats, Deep Sea Jellyfish, Shark Reef Aquarium or other fish aquariums, Bug Explorer, and Hermit Crab Cove. With each live habitat, there are plenty of lessons to be learned. Children learn by experience and observance. The live habitats enable them to learn safely and in a fun way from their own home.

Practicality in buying ATV gifts for kids

Buying a kid who is an ATV enthusiast makes perfect sense because you are actually sticking to something safe. Let us look at it this way….a kids ATV gift is practical because they will be using it for practical purposes and it can be used over a long period of time. Furthermore, it is harder to outgrow a kids ATV gift than to outgrow a pair of Nikes! And trust me, kids outgrow or get bored with gifts too easily. The last time I got a gift for my friends child, she outgrew them within a few weeks!

Purchasing kids ATV gifts do not break your budget

And of course, when looking for kids gifts, the foremost consideration is always the cost. When you purchase a kids ATV gift, make sure it is affordable and will fit into your budget. There really is not a point in spending too much on the gift in an effort to buy their affection. Kids do not work that way - expensive gifts are reserved, usually, for business people! Let us be honest with that, huh? You get a business associate or potential client something expensive and they might respond positively by giving you their next big project - with kids, it just does not work that way so, do not waste your time and money.

Safety is number one for the kids

I do not know about you but whenever I buy ATV gifts for kids, the first thing that comes to mind is always safety. Consider purchasing gifts from well-known brands because the more established they are, the more research they would have done, the more experience they would have had. Experience counts for lot as far as ATV gifts are concerned.

Consider buying a kid an ATV helmet if you run out of ideas. A kids ATV helmet can have many different uses. They can use the ATV helmet for bike riding or when they are going for a short ride to the store with their dad on a motorbike. It is not restricted to just ATV riding.

Make sure the ATV gift is suitable for their age

Although it has become relatively easy to find ATV gifts for kids online, one thing is for sure. You will have to make sure the gift that you are getting is suitable for the kids age. If the kid is larger than others his or her age, buy one size larger. In fact, to be on the safe side, I buy everything one size larger for apparels. The only kind of kids ATV gift that I cannot buy one size larger is the ATV helmets. In terms of helmets, I always get the help of their parents.

Baby Car Seat Installation Tips

Posted by Matt2257 in Infants and Toddlers

Seen those baby on board bumper stickers? How about the Baby inside stickers that look like the intel processor chip logo? There is no doubt that the baby in the car is the most precious cargo in the vehicle, and worthy of letting everyone know that you are carrying valuable cargo, but there is also some important things you need to do to keep the baby safe. Baby car seats hold your most precious cargo. Whether you are running down the street for a gallon of milk, or you are going cross country on vacation, you should always make sure that your baby is strapped properly in the car seat. There is the right and wrong way to do this, so lets take a look at what it takes to make sure you are on the right side of the baby car seat set up.

You should always put your baby car seat in the backseat of the car. The reason for this is many fold. Some of the key reasons are that your baby will be in the most centered location of the car, should you get in an accident. The backseat of the car give the child the best odds of minimizing impact. The other reason is the front drivers air bag. You do not want the air bag deploying on the child should you get into an accident. If you are driving a truck, then you have no other option, except to strap the baby in the middle of the seat and not next to the door. But, if you are driving a truck, then you really should consider other options in transportation. Your child should be worth that extra consideration.

When you install your baby car seat into the back seat of the car, you want your baby to face the back of the car. If your baby is facing the front of the car, then car seat is not put in correctly. Not only should the baby face the back of the car, but the car seat should not be standing up straight. The car seat should be sitting on the seat of the car as if your baby is in the lying down position while inside of it. Many infant car seats have a level marker so that you can get it just perfect when you are installing the car seat into your vehicle. Depending on the age of the baby, you may be able to have the car seat facing forward, but that is typically for toddlers. Check the manufacturers recommendations to be sure you have your child facing the right way.

Again, make sure your child is in the center of the back seat. Placing the baby car seat in the middle of the back seat will keep your baby from getting much direct impact from a probable car accident. Also, be sure that the seatbelt is snug around the baby car seat, so that it can not be moved. Always be sure that the seatbelt is buckled as well. When you try to move the carseat, it should be snug and not have a great deal of play. If you can shake the seat around, you run the risk of a snapping motion in event of an impact. The carseat should feel like an integral part of the back seat…as one unit.

Lastly, remember that the baby car seat is a safety piece of equipment, not a fashion piece. While you probably have a nice seat for your baby, don’t get hung up on the fact that you may need to change the seat when you child out grows it, or if something were to happen to it.

Three Tidbits I Wish I’d Known Before Having A Baby

Posted by Doups3 in Parenting

I hope this title is not misleading, as I in no way want this article to appear as if I regret having my beautiful baby boy. I just quickly found out that there were a few surprises to parenthood. I hope you can learn something from my experiences and be a little better prepared when your new little one comes.

Tidbit 1: Babies go through a lot of diapers at first. You might have heard this before, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be surprised by the amount of diapers they go through. Expect an average of 10-15 diapers a day at first–no kidding. The good news is that as their bodies gradually develop they need fewer and fewer diapers. Another related surprise is the price of diapers. The average price of diapers is around $10 for 30 diapers. You can do the math; it adds up quickly.

Tidbit 2: Some babies are born with long fingernails and can scratch themselves right away before they learn to use those appendages properly. I can’t tell you how helpless I felt to see my baby boy scratching his baby face with those tiny hands.

You might think the easy solution is to cut the fingernails. While this is true, most find it very difficult to take fingernail clippers to their infants (I sure did and I even had the special made-for-babies finger nail clippers). I’d heard too many horror stories about parents inadvertently clipping off the end of their tiny baby’s finger while trying to clip the nails (shudder).

You might try buying baby clothes that have hand covers on them. Or just buy your baby some cute little mitts - adorable and useful. As a side note, normally baby onesies only partially cover the arms of your baby and don’t cover the hands at all. When buying baby onesies, mitts are highly recommended.

Another solution to the fingernail dilemma is simply biting your baby’s fingernails. When I first received this advice, I was extremely skeptical. Who wants to bite their baby’s fingernails? However, after the baby gloves kept flying off I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this works. Using your teeth, it is much easier to determine where your baby’s fingernail ends and his skin begins. This is the main advantage of biting your baby’s fingernails over clipping them. If you do decide to use fingernail clippers, please use extreme caution.

Tidbit 3: Breastfeeding hurts…a lot. Breastfeeding hurts at first even if your baby is latching on correctly. It hurts about twice as much if your baby doesn’t latch correctly, maybe three times as much. Be sure to ask for a lactation specialist while at the hospital, if available, to make sure your baby is latching properly. If your hospital doesn’t provide a lactation specialist, the nurses work great too.

An unpleasant surprise with breastfeeding is that the pain does not only come from the source you might think. While it is true that the area where the baby latches on becomes extremely sore (we’re talking cracked and bleeding in some cases), you’ll also feel severe cramping as the baby feeds. Most mothers don’t expect this cramping to occur.

The good news about breastfeeding, besides the health and economical benefets, is that after 1-2 weeks the cramping subsides, and after 3-6 weeks breastfeeding becomes much less painful in the latch-on area (as long as you don’t allow yourself to become a pacifier). This means only feed your newborns when they are hungry and not when they are just looking for something to do.

Your newborn will bring you more joy than you can imagine. Sure, you’ll have a few surprises along the way, but the benefits far outweigh the costs. Perhaps your biggest surprise will be how much you enjoy having a baby.

Hush Little Baby Don’t You Cry

Posted by Sparta in Parenting

Baby monitors have become an absolute godsend for parents. Not so long ago a parent got little rest, particularly if they were of an anxious nature, because they were constantly checking on their sleeping child. Many children have been lost over the years to cot death and although the incidents are dropping, it is still not a fully understood phenomenon. An otherwise healthy baby stops breathing for no apparent reason and the first thing a parent knows is when they go to wake it and find a tragedy has occurred.

This fear is something never very far from a parent’s mind, especially when the baby is still very young. To this end, they are constantly backwards and forwards checking the child is ok, checking the room temperature and checking their baby’s health. This is an exhausting thing for the mother and father but what else can you do?

Modern technology has brought about several inventions to help parents. One of them is a sensor that the baby lays on and that will sound an alarm if it detects that the baby stops breathing. These are usually used by parents who have experienced the trauma of losing a child to cot death previously. However, they are not that reliable in that the alarm will sound for no reason so you are still running to check your child and those few seconds it takes to get there, thinking your baby might have stopped breathing, are very traumatic.

Baby monitors have proved very useful over the years. They cannot help in the event of cot death but nothing really can unless you are going to sit and watch your baby twenty four hours a day. But a baby monitor does give you the freedom to roam your house or garden and still feel secure in the knowledge that if your baby wakes and is in distress that you will be able to hear them.

This gives the parents much more freedom and peace of mind. They can go about their everyday activities and regularly listen in to their child. Baby monitors can be quite sensitive and snuffles, snoring and crying will be picked up, meaning you can rest assured your baby is fine.

Today, there has been an improvement in baby monitors in that they now come with cameras installed. Not only can you hear your baby but also see your child sleeping peacefully in full colour. This means that you can check your baby has not got entangled in blankets or uncovered and getting cold. For the slightly older baby who will sit in a cot and play with toys or drink from a baby bottle, it’s also a good thing to be able to see that they come to no harm.

Once the room is dark you would think that these baby monitors would be a bit useless but no. They also come equipped with an infra red facility so, although it may be black and white, you can still see your child is safe, warm and well.

As high tech as these gadgets sound, they do come in unobtrusive designs that blend into a nursery without looking obvious. One particular design of baby monitor with built in camera comes in the design of a brightly coloured flower, which would blend quite nicely with a nursery design. Safety is not compromised for style, even in baby monitor equipment!

Parenting expert Catherine Harvey looks at the use of baby monitors for anxious parents.

Car Seat Safety Tips That Could Save Your Child’s Life

Posted by Dasleben in Parenting

How many of you are working as hard as you can to ensure your child’s car seat safety? I would hope that most of you put this as your number one priority, and are looking all over the web and talking to fellow parents about how to increase car seat safety with the most up to date information available. The internet is a great source of information, however, how can you be sure that the information you’re getting is the best available? Well, luckily you won’t have to look far. With a little common sense you can come to the best conclusions yourself about the car seat safety features you’ll need for your baby.

The first thing you should know about car seat safety is probably the most obvious: know how to install it properly in your car. You’d be surprised at just how many people skip this step and try to put their car seat in a car without real knowledge of how it should go in. Don’t simply consult your car seat’s manual; your automobile’s manual should also be included in your reading. Many cars these days have systems such as the “LATCH” system to aid in installing car seats, so be up to speed on these before buying a seat.

Once you’ve figured out how to secure the seat into a car, make sure you know how to properly secure your child in the car seat. Many car seats have five point harnesses, which are also used by fighter pilots and race car drivers to aid in their personal safety. This isn’t a ploy to make you only feel as though your child is safer. Your child really is statistically much safer in a seat with a five point harness than in one without that type of seatbelt system. This type of seatbelt protects your baby by restricting movement in all directions, not just the forward-facing direction. In a side impact, shoulder straps can save your baby’s life.

Your child should also fit appropriately in a car seat. An ill-fitting car seat can contribute to injury in an automobile accident by allowing your child to move around too freely and bang his or her head into the sides of the seat. This can cause serious injury, so make sure that the seat you choose fits your child appropriately. This includes a seat that is too small or too large.

What would you say is statistically the best place to put your child in a car? If you say the rear seats, you’d be very much correct. Ensure that you’re placing your child in rear seats away from any airbags. In newer cars with side airbags in the rear seats, the best place for your child is in the middle of the rear seats away from those as well. Frontal airbags are extraordinarily dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article. I can only hope that this has helped you figure out which car seat would best suit you and your family.

Baby Showers - The Perfect Gifts

Posted by Doups3 in Parenting

Ever wondered what to buy for an expecting mother? There are heaps of goodies that you could buy: diapers, pacifiers, clothes, toys etc. Any gift is nice, but there are certain advantages and disadvantages to buying certain gifts.

Diapers make a great, practical gift for any family expecting a newborn. Diapers are more expensive than you might think and babies use a lot of them (10-15 diapers a day when they are just born). Most new parents have no idea that babies are going to use this amount of diapers. In short, although the new parents might laugh at you for gifting them diapers, in the end they will be extremely grateful, especially when they see how much diapers cost.

A pacifier is another useful but not flashy gift. When newborns are not sleeping and eating they are usually wiggling and crying. This is normal as they are trying to adjust to the newness of this world. A pacifier will go a long way to calm down the baby and give the new parent some time to enjoy the baby while he or she is awake and not fussing. Note that some debate exists as to whether or not babies should use pacifiers (some claim it can cause dental problems in the future).

Another simple and inexpensive suggestion for a gift is baby clothing. For newborns most suggest baby onesies. Baby onesies provide several comforts to expecting parents and are more fun to buy than diapers or pacifiers. Here are five benefits baby onesies provide.

Benefit #1 - Easy Access to the Diaper
If you are an expecting Mom or Dad, you’re probably not enthralled about the numerous diaper-changing “opportunities” that await you. Changing diapers is hard enough (trying to hold the baby still while not making him/her cry, not to mention the lovely aroma can be challenging), baby onesies make life a little easier by having snaps near the crotch area that make it so you can have access to your favorite region without having to completely unclothe the baby. This sure beats having to undress him or her every time.

Benefit #2 - The Onesie Stays in Place
Babies are wigglers; they have so much wiggly-ness in them that they sometimes wiggle their clothes right off. Normal shirts can ride up on your baby, exposing her belly to her “favorite” uncle Bob, who just can’t resist giving a wet raspberry. Baby onesies on the other hand, always stay in place thanks to the great snap feature.

Benefit #3 - Inexpensive
Pretty cute baby onesies can be purchased for only $6.99 at stores like Wal-Mart and Target, though top-end onesies can cost you quite a bit more. Try buying yourself an entire outfit for $6.99!

Benefit #4 - Many Uses
Baby onesies can easily be worn as a shirt by simply placing shorts or pants on the baby over the onesie. Or if baby is feeling especially wild today and wants to run around with his pants off, that’s okay too (the private areas will be well covered by the onesie).

Benefit #5 - Cute
You must admit it, the fact that a baby can fit into a little piece of clothing is adorable. The cute or funny sayings on the onesies make them even more lovable.

Purchasing gifts for expecting mothers and new born babies can be difficult, but hopefully you now have some ideas. Gifting diapers and pacifiers represents a pragmatic choice. Giving baby clothing is perhaps more fun, although maybe slightly less useful. The best of luck in your search for the perfect gift for those expecting parents.
