Getting fit means eating healthy and exercise regularly for a lifetime of fitness and health. The key words here are lifetime and regularity. These words sound very good but are too tough to follow. Ask anyone who has tried to inculcate the habit of eating healthy and doing exercises. More often than not you will get an answer that they started and they have now gone back to eating unhealthy foods and irregular exercise. This happens to almost every one of us.

Very few people can break this habit of starting and the going back to old habits. The secret though lies in the fact these people have a game plan to achieve what they wanted to achieve. There is no secret apart form this and there is no mental toughness involved in this.

Almost everyone can do this provide they have a script which in plain speak means that they have a game plan at hand to attack their won inefficiencies. Let me give you an example let us say that you take carbonated water of the sugared variety like coke on a daily basis and your intake is four bottles a day. One day suddenly if you decide to shun this I am sure that you will revert back to this after a few days.

The reason is that you do not have a plan as to what you will drink instead of that. Then try to write down how you will leave this habit. Try to go slow pick a target of let us say a month to cut down on the soda. First try having sparkling water instead for at least one time of the day. Once you have achieved that habit then go on the next time of the day when you want top replace soda with water. This is what effective planning is all about.

Crash course diets are also an effective way to get in shape quickly but typically what happens there too is that once you have achieved the results you shed your guard and begin to relax. The weight starts to inch up again. Make sure that if you have going to do a crash course in weight loss then after that course you have a plan to keep that weight in check by eating healthy. That means that you write down all the calories that you intake and how much you need to stay in shape.

The effective way of dealing with all this is also making sure that you lifestyle undergoes a change. What that means is that you start making changes to your lifestyle gradually. Make sure that you take time to walk run every morning instead of hopping into the car to go to the office every morning.

Start drinking water instead of tea or coffee. Start having salad instead of junk food in your lunch time. Quit going to after office beer parties and instead go for the gym. These changes in your lifestyle can definitely bring in the desired fitness into your life. The need is for you have patience and discipline.

Here’s the difference though: trans fats aren’t actual food and certainly aren’t good for you! What are trans fats best for? Clogging your arteries. Not something you want if you are trying to lose weight. So just avoid trans fats all together as much as possible. Along with that go sodas and other highly processed foods.

4. Eat plenty of fresh whole foods. Once you start exercising, you’ll want to increase the amounts of protein and vegetables you take in. Throw in some fruits and complex carbs for good measure. Wholesome fresh foods are essential for successful weight loss and for maintaining you slimmer self.

5. Exercise! Start with something like 2 to 3 times a week for starters. Make sure to have plenty of cardio in your workouts. Now, cardio doesn’t mean that you have to work out for hours on end 2 to 3 times a week. You could easily get by with 15 to 30 minute cardio workouts 2 to 3 times a week. That would be a great start. Cardio will build your endurance and will help strength your metabolism.

6. Don’t forget the strength thing! Resistance training will help you build muscle, which is essential to weight loss. Surprising, I know. But if you think about it, once you start to build muscle, those very muscles that you work in your cardio and resistance workouts will be able to burn even more fat for you. So start with 30 minutes 2 to 3 times a week and gradually increase the time and frequency as you get better.

7. Stay motivated! If you are going from little to no exercising to a 2 to 3 workouts a week, or even if you are going from eating junk foods and fast food to eating wholesome fresh foods, it can get difficult. Make sure to stick to it! On those especially tough days, instead of giving up entirely, allow yourself a treat here or there. By treat, I’m not talking about pigging out at a fast food joint. Maybe a snack here or there that would be on the “avoid” list. Just make sure it’s few and far between.

Can you remember how excited you were when you got your new and shiny exercise equipment? You were so wrapped up with it all you promised yourself you would use it every single day. But it did not take long for you to be sick and tired of pedaling or walking and getting nowhere and the very thought of exercising now fills you with dread. Well, do not despair. There are ways to make your workouts more interesting and here are a few tips of how to do just that.

First of all, put some music on. This will help to raise your enthusiasm. Let’s face it, there is nothing like an upbeat tune to get you moving. You can always warm up and cool down to slow tunes and build up to a crescendo for the main part of your training. For a variation of music simply listen to your favorite CD or tune into your local radio station.

If music is really not your thing you could try audio books. They can be a great way to pass the time whilst exercising. You never know, you may even begin to look forward to your exercising sessions if you are really enjoying the book!

Another way to get on with your workout is to watch the television at the same time. Exercise whilst watching your favorite show or stop and start a movie over a period of a few days and you will soon settle down to regular workouts again. A good idea is to make the TV out of limits except for when you are exercising - this is sure to give you the motivation you need.
