How To Lose Weight Naturally And Feel Great

Posted by Redgsr in Health

Losing weight can often be a frustrating journey. You might want to lose the weight for a special occasion or a birthday or maybe you just feel like it. Whatever the reason, you should be aware that there is no magic pill that will enable you to lose the weight in a short period of time. If you are to successfully achieve your goal then you need to follow a safe and methodical plan that allows flexibility within your daily eating patterns.

The concept of rapid weight loss and fad diets may have some tangible results in the short term, but they are not sustainable and the rapidity can shock the body. Instead, the best way to this is through a calorie controlled diet. Weight gain generally occurs when the body does not burn the calories that are consumed. Therefore your task is to ensure that you maintain this balance naturally.

To do this is easy. Follow the advice below and not only will you lose weight but you will feel better as well. Perhaps the most obvious advice someone can offer is to start exercising. This does not mean that you are expected to be running a marathon within a few weeks, but it will improve your weight.

By simply starting a daily routine that comprises of a brisk morning walk for 30 to 60 minutes a day can have a positive effect on your weight loss program. If you do this over a period of weeks and months than you are sure to notice the difference as you begin to consistently burn the calories.

This advice sounds simple, but some people fail at this stage because they cannot build up the habit of regular exercise. They will try it once or twice but then stop and this will not achieve the results that you want. If this sounds like you, then the best advice in these circumstances would be to find a physical activity that you enjoy and does not require a constant battle to motivate you. Some examples include swimming and sports.

The second advice to help you to lose weight naturally focuses on diet. I am sure that you are already aware that eating lots of high-calorie foods will hinder your weight loss plans. If you are to create good long-term habits than you need to reduce foods such as burgers and chips and so on. This is not to suggest that you can never eat these again, just that you need to moderate fat intake so that the amount of calories that you consume is balanced by the number that you burn.

To help you in planning your diet, try to include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables in your meals. These are rich in minerals and other vital nutrients and will help to provide the energy needed to exercise. A great tip is to replace coffee and soft drinks with mineral water. Not only does water contain zero calories but it also helps to control your appetite.

By following the advice above you are allowing your body to naturally lose weight through a combination of the right foods balanced with a sustained exercise program. Remember that this plan is designed to see results over a long period of time and that it is unhealthy to make rapid changes to your body.

What You Should Know About LASIK Eye Surgery Before Getting It Done

Posted by Youcanworkthenet in Health

If you are thinking about getting corrective eye surgery to help fix your ability to read, and see more clearly, your Denver eye care doctor should first test you to see which surgery is right for you. While LASIK surgery is getting more and more popular, it is not for everyone. Here is what you need to know when deciding if this procedure is right for you when consulting your Denver eye care physician.

LASIK vision correction can help with correcting farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatisms of all sorts. However, certain conditions, such as Presbyopia, (A condition that requires older patients to wear eye glasses to correct vision) cannot be treated by having this eye surgery done. You see, when you go in to have LASIK eye surgery, the Denver surgeon will actually reshape your cornea. He does this by vaporizing the tissue with a high tech ultraviolet laser.

Before deciding to have a Denver Surgeon do this procedure to your eyeballs, you really need to do your due diligence, and research heavily about different forms of corrective eye surgery. Ask your friends and family members that may have experienced this surgery. ask about their experiences with specific surgeons too. Denver Lasik Eye Surgeons have a great reputation for performing this surgery without causing any damage to the eye. Many patients have experienced great improvement in their vision after going through with the decision to have LASIK done. Do not settle for going to the closest surgeon in your area. Do your homework concerning doctors across the country. It will be worth going to someone with a good reputation, even if it costs a little more money to fly to them.

There are some risks and side effects to LASIK surgery. It is always best to know what your chances of being damaged are, and if having this surgery done is worth these risks.

Your Denver eye doctor should evaluate you to decide if you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Not everyone is a good fit. If your corneas are too thin, it will not be possible, and you could actually run the risk of going blind. Your ophthalmologist should go over all of the risks involved before you go ahead and agree to have the procedure done.

You should find a good set of testimonials of others who have undergone LASIK eye surgery in the past, and get a grasp for whether or not making this decision is right for you. You can find several of them on the web.

One last thing you should know before looking for a good surgeon, is how much they charge. Never under any circumstances let a doctor perform eye surgery if they charge $500 per eye or less. You get what you pay for, and when it comes to your eyes, you have no choice but to go for the expensive, experienced surgeon who has performed the operation on over 100 patients. The cost to have good LASIK surgery done should be no less than $2,000 per eye.

Do the above research, and determine whether or not this solution to vision correction is right for you. If not, then seek other vision correction apporaches, such as wearing glasses, or contact lenses.

Gestational Diabetes Causes, Symptoms, Cure Or Treatment

Posted by Ashishjaiswal in Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a condition characterized by high blood glucose (sugar) levels that is first recognized during pregnancy. About 7 percent of all pregnant women in the U.S. are diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

Most women who have gestational diabetes give birth to healthy babies, especially when they control their blood sugar, eat a healthy diet, exercise, and keep a healthy weight.

Diagnosis

A glucose screening test is usually performed between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy, which involves drinking a glucose drink followed by measurement of glucose levels after a one-hour interval.
If this test shows an increased blood sugar level, another test will be performed after a few days of following a special diet. The second test also involves drinking a glucose drink, and results are measured at three-hour intervals.

Causes

As the pregnancy progresses, the mothers energy needs increase. Coupled with this, the placenta produces hormones that help the baby grow and develop. These hormones also block the action of the mothers insulin. This is called insulin resistance. The pregnant woman needs extra insulin so the glucose can get from the blood into the cells where it is used for energy. From about 24 weeks, insulin needs in pregnancy can be two or three times higher than normally required. If the body is unable to meet this requirement, then diabetes develops. When the pregnancy is over and the insulin needs return to normal, the diabetes usually disappears.

Symptoms

Generally, gestational diabetes does not cause any symptoms. Subtle signs, such as fatigue or excessive thirst and urination, may sometimes occur, but many women without gestational diabetes also experience these changes late in pregnancy. Because the condition cannot be diagnosed on the basis of the mothers symptoms, glucose testing must be done to detect it.

Cure and Treatment

The cure for gestational diabetes is the cessation of those hormones that block it. This only happens when the patient gives birth, which may be several weeks from the time it was detected. Women who are predisposed should be checked early for their levels of glucose, lest they be affected by gestational diabetes. If you are diagnosed to have gestational diabetes, you are advised to lower down your blood glucose levels by eating a healthy diet. This means that the carbohydrates that you eat should be limited to be able to maintain normal blood glucose levels. Exercise is also suggested as part of the daily routine to lower blood sugar although it is not recommended in high risk pregnancies. The glucose levels in the blood should be monitored at least three times a day, after every meal. For those taking insulin, they also have to test themselves before meals to be able to keep blood glucose levels normal.

A cure for Diabetes has not been found yet. However, it can be controlled. Ways to control diabetes are: maintaining blood glucose levels, blood fat levels and weight. Controlling diabetes is very important and should be supervised by a medical doctor. When diabetes is controlled, it will help prevent serious complications such as: infections, kidney damage, eye damage, nerve damage to feet and heart disease.

Meditation: Go Deep Quick! Pt 2

Posted by Lemortedeben in Meditation

Learning to meditate can be somewhat challenging. If you really want to develop these skills, it isn’t terribly difficult, but it will take some time and effort. Using traditional methods, it can take years to make significant headway. Students are often left to meditate with very little guidance. Some just sit in place for hours wondering if and when anything will happen for them. Eventually, this will yield results, but few of us have the patience for such methods. This is the 21st century… we want our enlightenment by yesterday at the latest. So how do we speed the process? How do we get the benefits of meditation in less time? Brainwave entrainment is the quickest way to gain access to deeper levels of mind.

Many studies confirm that one of the primary differences between long term meditators and us average folks is the brainwaves they emit. Experienced meditators emit primarily alpha waves, while most people emit primarily beta waves. Normal consciousness takes place primarily at the beta brainwave level (15 or more cycles per second). The deeper level of relaxed alertness is alpha (8-14 cycles per second). Most people only enter alpha just before or just as they are going to sleep. Most long-term meditators are primarily in alpha almost all the time.

The next level down is theta. The theta range is from 4-7 cycles per second. This is the range that many researchers (Jose Silva and others) associate with psychic skills. Remote viewing, remote influencing, healing, and other hidden mind skills typically occur at the theta level. Theta is also the level of dreaming during sleep.

The next level is delta. The delta range is from 0.5 to 3.5 cycles per second. This is the range associated with deep dreamless sleep and the rejuvenation of the body (human growth hormone, HGH, is released more commonly at this level than any other). It is also associated with the deepest levels of meditative experience: disappearance of the self, merging with the void, achieving Samadhi, etc.

So obviously, it is good to have these deeper brainwaves… and we all have them, but most of us only experience the deeper brainwaves during sleep. How do we consciously experience these deeper states, and how do we do this without years of training?

Brainwave entrainment is an excellent way to shorten your learning curve in meditation. Listening to these tracks will ‘entrain’ your brain into frequencies usually only experienced consciously by long term meditators. Entrainment actually increases the amount of brainwaves of a given frequency that you emit.

Brainwave CDs or MP3s are readily available and relatively inexpensive. Get a set that has alpha, theta, and delta tracks. Start out meditating with the alpha, and work your way down. It is useful to do one entrainment meditation daily while doing nothing else, and also to play the track once while you are working on day-to-day chores (dishes, laundry, going for a walk, etc.). Do not use them while driving!

When you add brainwave entrainment into your practice of meditation, you will dramatically increase the speed with which you access deeper states of consciousness!

Home Remedies For Insomnia - Quiz Yourself On The Basics

Posted by Jpurfield in Wellness

If you’re researching the home remedies for insomnia out there, then below are three key questions you need to know the answer to. If you want results, then you’ll benefit from these questions. The format will be as follows: I’ll state the question, follow up with the correct answer, followed by a lot of information to help you.

1. When I get started with a home remedy for insomnia I:

A) Take an over the counter medication along with the home remedy.
B) Follow the directions as instructed.
C) Research the remedy further to see if it’s valid.

The correct answer is B. When you start trying a home remedy to cure your insomnia, you want to follow the instructions. Here’s why, if you don’t follow the instructions then you may not get the results you want. Also incorporating over the counter sleep medication with the remedy will not help you decide if it works or not. In regards to the other answers, if you decide to research the treatment you just purchased, then you simply researched at the wrong time. You should do all your research before purchasing. This way you know if the insomnia cure is workable with your current life style.

2. If I am stressed at night just before bed time, I:

A) Plan for the next day.
B) Just go to bed angry and agitated and try and get some well deserved sleep.
C) Write down my problems using a pen and paper.

There are two correct answers here: A and C. If you sit down with a pen and paper and write out your schedule for the next day, then you are “giving yourself permission” to handle your issues the next day. This can do wonders for your mind set and is worth a try. Also, writing is very therapeutic when it comes to confronting your problems. A simple exercise to try is writing down your thoughts (no matter how far out there they are) and then shred them. It’s a great way to let go and move forward. If you go to bed angry and agitated then you probably won’t get to sleep at a decent hour. Your best bet in this case is to try the exercises mentioned above.

3. When it comes to coffee or caffeinated drinks and my sleep I:

A) Will never give them up. I perform too well with them.
B) Try to cut back or eliminate the caffeine from my diet.

The correct answer is B. It may be something as simple like caffeine that is causing your insomnia. You start feeling the effects of caffeine as you get older. When you’re a young adult, it gives you all the energy you need to conquer the world. Then one day you’re thirty-something, hyped up in the morning and crashing in the afternoons. Then you’re looking for more coffee to stay alert. You’re best bet is to try and cut back on the afternoon coffee. If you want to be really effective, try cutting out caffeine all together. However, be prepared to fall asleep at inconvenient times. If coffee is such a vice where you would never give it up, then you need to consider going to decaf coffee. When it comes to home remedies for insomnia, you are aiming for a natural balance in your body so you can fall asleep at night again.

Insomnia: Can It Be Fatal?

Posted by Sweetdreams in Health

Most people have experienced insomnia at one time or another - college examination time or with a newborn in the house. For some people, however, insomnia and its effects are a constant presence. The effects of insomnia can be devastating to job performance and personal relationships. When the sleep-deprived person gets behind the wheel of a car that is when real danger appears. Falling asleep at the wheel is now recognized as a significant contributor to the more than three million auto accidents around the world each year.

Sleep is so important that even one night without proper sleep can cause more than twenty-five percent drop in the immune system’s ability to fight sickness and disease. Fatigued workers and increased rates of auto accidents are just a few examples of the cause and effect of insomnia.

Between the dangers of operating a vehicle or other large equipment without having slept, it is a fact that your insomnia can in fact kill you. This is not meant to make you panic, but to encourage you to take a look at your current sleeping patterns so that you recognize that changes need to be made. Depriving your body of a good night of rest can significantly impair your mind and your body, and cause detrimental effects in the long run.

When you get behind the wheel of a car, you have to be alert, and ready to react to any situation that comes your way. A car is a powerful thing, and when you are operating a vehicle, you have to be in full control of what you are doing. If someone cuts you off, you have to immediately be ready to swerve or brake to avoid a collision. A pedestrian can cross in front of your car unexpectedly, and it is up to you to pay attention.

Driving a car takes your full and undivided attention. If you are ready to go somewhere, you should make sure that you are going to be able to fully commit in order to get to your destination safely. Driving on little sleep produces the same, if not more severe effects as driving while intoxicated. Your insomnia prevents your brain from being able to rest itself during the night and turn off to be able to be at peak performance the next day. When you go without sleep, your body is ready to take a nap during the day, and it could happen that it catches up with you while you are on the road. Studies have shown that those who are up from seventeen hours straight and beyond have the equivalent mental capacity to someone with a .05 blood alcohol level.

Doctors insist that part of a healthy lifestyle includes getting seven to nine hours of sleep every night for adults. This will drastically reduce the signs of aging, not to mention make you feel refreshed and renewed in the morning. Additionally, getting sleep helps to revitalize your immune system. If you are trying to stave off an infection or virus, you will be so much more likely to get rid of it sooner if you are getting proper rest. Insomniacs have a hard time battling diseases because their immunity has weakened.

So, be smart about things, and just do something simple like resting in your bed every night for eight hours.
