Positive Thoughts Equal A Positive Attitude

Posted by Pptwhite in Wellness

If you have ever felt like life is not treating you right then you should take a moment to consider how great a role your thinking and attitude play in how life treats you; because it is all about how you perceive your life to be that determines how it will be. If you have negative thoughts, your attitude tends to be just as negative and if you have positive thoughts your attitude will be just as positive. You cannot expect to have a good attitude when all of your thoughts tell you that life is hard, full of disappointment and that it’s you against the world.

I want you to try this quick experiment so that you can see how your thoughts really do affect your perceptions on life, as well as your attitude. Think of your best friend and the unconditional love and support shared between the two of you…

Did you smile without meaning to? Did you remember a specific time when your friend showed unconditional love and support for you? Did you notice that your attitude brightened while thinking about your best friend? Chances are very good that this is the experience you had by thinking about something positive.

You were asked to do this quick experiment about positive thinking so that you could experience for yourself how your thoughts affect your attitude. While articles like this are informational and useful, I have always found that they are even more helpful when I can relate to them on a personal level like the experiment above, which positive thinking allowed me to do. I understand what people mean when they say that positive thoughts equal a positive attitude.

How do our thoughts and attitudes play a role in how life treats us? Our thoughts and attitude determines the way we perceive our life. Negative thoughts and a negative attitude will cause us to perceive everyday occurrences negatively. While positive thoughts and a positive attitude will cause us to perceive everyday occurrences positively. People with negative perceptions often make mountains out of mole hills so to speak.

Small things become a very big deal and people with negative attitudes always seem to be the ones that have bad things happening to them on a daily basis. They were late to work. They forgot their lunch at home. Traffic was bad when they got off. The cable was out. You get the idea. Unbeknownst to them is the very real fact that due to their negativity they are missing out on the good things, great and small that are trying to come into their lives.

Through our attitude we send messages to the people around us, and it is not hard to pick out the negative thinkers in the crowd because they usually have sour attitudes and we know one causes the other. Most people do not find negativity attractive. You can significantly improve your relationships with positive thoughts and a positive attitude.

If we are in a negative mode and perceiving our lives in that manner, we are actually creating an existence wherein we attract negativity to us while repelling anything positive. When we do this to ourselves we rationalize that life is just out to get us. We seethe inside as life seems to be going good for everyone else but us. Life is energy. It is not an entity with the power to wage a battle against you. Life is comprised of both good and bad things. The degree to which you will recognize and enjoy the good and cope with the bad is determined by how you perceive these things. And your perceptions are shaped by your thoughts and attitude.

In closing I leave you with this. Indulge in a life of positive thoughts which will equal a positive attitude and life will be good to you. Instead of thinking that the grass is greener on the other side, make your grass the greenest grass that you have ever seen. If you positively believe in your own success, then you can make it happen. Remember that your thoughts have power.

Is LASIK Eye Surgery Right For You?

Posted by Paid_survey in Health

If you look at statistics from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery you’ll find that just 5% of all people that have lasik eye surgery are dissatisfied with the results. This seems pretty darn good to me, especially after wearing glasses and contacts for the past 35 years.

I’ve often considered lasik eye surgery and as I get older and the technology improves, lasik looks more and more appealing. The idea of no more contact lenses or glasses is extremely appealing, especially since there are some situations like sports and swimming where they are a hindrance. I can just imagine waking in the morning, opening my eye and actually being able to see more than three feet in front of me. In the past lasik eye surgery was less reliable and more expensive, but now it seems like the time may be right.

What needs to be considered are the pros and cons of lasik as well as the cost of the eye surgery.
The obvious pro is that you’ll have perfect vision, perhaps for the first time in your life. You’ll no longer need to depend on contacts and glasses to see. Another advantage is that lasik surgery is pain free and for most the recovery is fast. There is also very little risk of infection with lasik since the surgery is performed with lasers, especially if you have IntraLase bladeless lasik.

While there are few disadvantages, if you’re one of the 5% that is dissatisfied with your lasik surgery the disadvantages will become huge. While recovery from lasik eye surgery is quick for most people, some heal more slowly than others. It is possible to have to wait several months for your vision to be completely perfect. This is only a disadvantage in that you may need patience before your vision is completely corrected. A worse disadvantage is for those for whom lasik has complications. These complications can range from problems with halos and glaring to night vision to worse vision after the surgery. In most cases these complications go away by themselves, but for some additional surgery may be required. And for a very few unlucky people lasik eye surgery may actually make their vision worse and there will be no way to correct this.

When looking a lasik surgery prices you’ll find that they differ from doctor to doctor and clinic to clinic. This is why it makes sense to shop around and get quotes from several doctors. While prices may be similar, you could save several hundred dollars by shopping around. Also, don’t believe the advertisements for super cheap lasik, in most cases these prices don’t include everything and you’ll end up paying much more. The typical “average” price for lasik eye surgery seems to be around $1500 per eye.

Finally, you’ll find that lasik eye surgery is usually not covered by insurance because it is considered cosmetic surgery. You may however be able to get a discount from the laser eye surgery center so don’t be afraid to ask during your consultation.

Understanding UV Ratings To Protect Ourselves

Posted by Galway in Health

We are often told that when we buy sunglasses we should check the UV rating and most of us are aware that the UV rating has something to do with the strength of the sun. However, if we do not fully understand how the UV rating is worked out, how can we possibly look after our eye health or even our skin unless we understand where, when and for how long we need to protect ourselves?

We are now given scales on the weather forecast of sun and UV risks but once again, we need to be able to decipher these. Even when we do understand what it means, we need to take into account that reactions will be different for individuals depending on age and health also. There will also be a different reaction in us, depending on whereabouts on the globe that we are, the nearer the equator the stronger the suns force.

Ultra violet radiation from the sun is measured on a device called the UV index at the peak hour of sunlight and it is this we need to understand. It will give us an estimation as to what the risk of exposure is, whether or not we need sunglasses and the sort of sun cream factor we should be prepared to use. We can then factor in increased susceptibility for younger children and the elderly.

Due to concern about the damage that UV rays can do to health, the UV index was introduced. This allows us to monitor the amount of exposure that we receive, to wear sunglasses when necessary, which should be most of the time, and to use appropriate skin protection. These preventative measures will help to avoid sunburn, cataracts and possibly skin cancer so the UV ratings for each day are well worth taking notice of on a daily basis.

The index works on a points system. 0 - 2 means that the peak exposure of radiation in the middle of the day is minimal, 3 - 4 and the risk is low. A rating of 5 - 6 is moderate and 7 - 9 is a high risk. A UV rating of 10 or above is very risky and the best advice is to stay indoors during peak hours, this being the main reason that many countries have siestas for two hours in the middle of the day.

Of course 0 -2 exposure is, in the main, harmless as is a value of 3 - 4 but those at either end of the age spectrum as well as those with fair skin should take precautionary measures for their skin protection. Values of more than seven indicate an increased risk of burning for everybody and fair skinned people could burn and/or do damage in as little as five minutes.

Of course, there are other factors that are taken into consideration when working out UV rays. One of these is air pollution. This actually reduces the amount or UV radiation getting through. Altitude, latitude and distance from the equator are all taken into consideration too. Skin colour also makes a huge difference as to how we will be affected by the sun with dark skinned people having a much higher protection from their natural melanin.

There is obviously a degree of sunlight that filters through every day and the best possible thing we can do for our health is to always wear sunglasses and to keep a low factor sunscreen on through the winter, increasing it through to the warmer months and staying out of the sun altogether if a UV rating of 10 or more is expected.

How To Live A Health Fitness Lifestyle

Posted by Nbisea in Health

What does it mean to live a health fitness lifestyle? Generally it means you eat healthily, you engage in a moderate exercise program, you don’t smoke, you limit alcohol consumption, and you maintain a normal weight. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Not really? For most people, trying to balance an active lifestyle with a healthful lifestyle may seem impossible due to time constraints, job and family commitments or just simply lack of motivation. Maintaining your health does not mean living miserably.

Eating right does not have to be a chore. Simple changes you can make while on your next visit to the grocery store can get you on the right path to eating better. Small substitutions like eating more fruit and veggies and eating less refined and processed foods over time saves calories and adds nutrients to your diet.

Don’t force yourself to shelve your entire diet and start with something restrictive. Feeling deprived leads to failure. Go slow and enjoy each new item you add to your diet.

Exercise does not have to be a dirty word. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, start slow and increase your activity level as you reach small goals you set for yourself.

It may be just using the stairs at work instead of using the elevator. Over time, you might decide to walk for part of your lunch break. Eventually you may want to join a fitness center to increase your progress. Go at a pace you are comfortable with and enjoy.

If you smoke, consider a smoking cessation program. There are medications in pill, patch and gum form that can assist you in stopping. Talking to a counselor or adopting a quit-smoking buddy has been shown to help smokers quit smoking at higher rate than trying to go it alone. Side effects of smoking include rapid heartbeat, decreased circulation, and shortness of breath and more serious problems like cancer, emphysema and heart disease can eventually develop.

Drinking alcohol in moderation has actually been shown to benefit the cardiovascular system. However, consuming more than a glass or two a day can cause liver damage. The liver acts as a giant filter system of the body.

When the filter is clogged, the body does not function properly. Jaundice, gallstones, blood clotting difficulties, organ failure and death can result when the liver is compromised.

Knowing your body mass index (BMI) can help you calculate what a healthy weight is for your body type. You can calculate your BMI by dividing your weight by the square of your height or go online and use a BMI calculating tool. Regulating your diet and adding health fitness weekly can help stabilize your weight.

So you’ve let yourself go. You don’t feel fit. You lack energy. Serious health issues may run in your family. What to do? It is never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Integrate more healthful food choices into your life.

Add health fitness to your routine. Quit smoking and have a glass of red wine with dinner. Eating better and increasing your activity level helps you maintain a normal weight. Each little change gets you closer to the lifestyle goals you set for yourself.

Sports Injuries May Cause Increase In Traumatic Brain Injuries

Posted by Kkelley in Health

Professional athletes are paid to win, to entertain, to train and, at times, to endure the brunt of much physical abuse because of their profession. However, several recent studies and news outlets have reported an increasingly disturbing number of athletes, both professional and non-professional, developing traumatic brain injuries (TBI) as related to concussions. These injuries may be going untreated and could leave an injured athlete with severe TBI side effects.

A study is being conducted by the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at the Boston University’s School of Medicine to determine long-term side effects of continued head trauma including concussions. According to articles from The New York Times, several National Football League (NFL) players have recently decided to leave their brains to the university for study of brain damage and the long-term effects of sports-related concussions. The article noted that the study has confirmed that at least five NFL players, who have recently died, have had damage to their brains that is usually only found in professional boxers.

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) in New Zealand is also attempting to reduce the likelihood of long-term TBI side effects for rugby players, which is an extremely popular pastime and has been deemed Australia’s national sport. The association has even developed a continual research project on rugby players and their injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, known as the Rugby Injury and Performance Project (RIPP). The organization is trying to better treat concussions and side effects, because concussions in professional sports, are often overlooked and inadequately treated.

Recognizing Symptoms of Brain Injury

Both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Association of State Head Injury Administrators (NASHIA) urge family, friends and victims to watch for the following signs and symptoms of TBI after a head injury or trauma has occurred to the brain. The symptoms include:

* blood or clear fluid from nose or ears

* ringing in the ears

* loss of smell or taste

* convulsions or seizures

* sudden onset of fixed stares

* size of pupils become very different (larger or smaller)

* difficulty walking

* blurred vision, double vision

* vomiting or nausea within 1 to 2 hours after injury

* feelings of exhaustion, difficulty walking up

* continued headaches

* continued neck pain

* behavioral or personality changes

TBI Treaments

The Boston University study is also attempting to look at the long-term effects of leaving TBI untreated and the potential treatments for long-term TBI side effects. Studies have found that individuals suffering from hidden brain injury may show additional signs that can be easily overlooked including

* headaches

* loss of balance

* dizziness

* sleep disruptions

Unfortunately, there is currently a strong lack of scientific research regarding long-term effects for TBI untreated, researchers have found that the following can be derived as potential TBI side effects:

* depression, often sever

* suicidal thoughts, actions and tendencies

* cognitive disabilities

* mood disorders

Medical Organizations Assisting with TBI

As researchers continue to find better treatments and technologies for assisting brain-injured victims it will become increasingly important for individuals who participate in sports to be aware of potential signs of brain injury or concussion. Friends and family of athletes should also know the signs and symptoms of TBI and contact health professionals if TBI is suspect. The following are a list of medical organizations nationally recognized as providing assistance to TBI victims, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS):

* Brain Injury Association of America

* Family Caregiver Alliance/National Center on Caregiving

* National Stroke Association

* Acoustic Neuroma Association

* Brain Trauma Foundation

* National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC)

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)
It is also advisable that a TBI victim contact an experienced traumatic brain injury law firm to better understand the potential for developing a TBI lawsuit to increase the chances of receiving monetary compensation for the costly medical bills associated with traumatic brain injury treatments.

Ideal Diet And Lifestyle For Female Sexual Problems

Posted by Drbrajeshveda in Alternative Medicine

A sexual problem refers to a problem that prevents an individual from experiencing satisfaction from the sexual activity. Women experience a variety of sexual problems. It is defined as a problem that occurs in the course of sexual activity, which include fondling, masturbation and oral sex.

The problems that can keep a woman from experiencing satisfaction during sexual activity are

Lack of sexual desire

Inability to become aroused

Lack of orgasm, or sexual climax

Painful intercourse

Various causes that keep a female from experiencing satisfaction during sexual activity are

Surgery

Changes in sexual functions after a hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) is not very uncommon. Changes like loss of desire, decreased vaginal lubrication and genital sensation may occur. Loss of the uterus results in hormonal changes and thus these problems occur. This can also be because nerves critical to sexual function can be damaged during the hysterectomy procedure.

Menopause

Loss of estrogen, which leads to menopause, can lead to changes in a woman’s sexual functioning. Emotional changes that often accompany menopause can add to a woman’s loss of interest in sex or in her ability to become aroused. However, some post-menopausal women report an increase in sexual satisfaction. This may be due to decreased anxiety over getting pregnant.

Various dietary and lifestyle modifications, which are required to overcome sexual problems, are:

1) Healthy food: Avoid refined carbohydrates - sugary foods, breads and cereal. Emphasize on lean meats, chicken, fish, and a lot of vegetables. Limited intake of saturated fats helps to stay fit and avoid diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, etc. Homemade salad dressing consisting of flaxseed oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice is beneficial.

2) Avoid excessive drinking and smoking. It can reduce the sexual drive and desire by reducing the blood flow to the sexual organs.

3) Remain physically active. Inactivity contributes to poor cardiovascular fitness and may raise the chances of lack of desire, arousal problems, and orgasm.

4) Exercise and meditation are very helpful in solving sex related problems and helps to maintain emotional and psychological balance. Stress, anxiety, relationship problems, depression, guilt and fatigue are some of the problems, which can easily be taken care of by meditating.

Regular aerobic exercise can increase stamina, improve body image and elevate your mood. Learning to relax amid the stresses of daily life can enhance your ability to focus on the sexual experience and attain better arousal and orgasm.

5) Maintaining personal hygiene is another factor, which help to overcome sexual problems. It helps to avoid various infections like chronic bladder infection, vaginal or cervical infections and can make sexual intercourse more desirable.

6) Communicate with your partner. It can enhance emotional and sexual intimacy as it can make your partner aware of your likes and dislikes. By doing so your emotional health and intimacy with your partner will improve helping you to enjoy your sexual activity.

Ailments / Medications

These conditions include diabetes, heart disease, neurological diseases, hormonal imbalances, kidney disease, and liver failure. In addition, the side effects of certain medications, including some antidepressant drugs, can affect sexual desire and function.

Psychological factors

Stress, anxiety, concern about sexual performance, relationship problems, depression, feelings of guilt, effects of a past sexual trauma, depression, pregnancy and fatigue are some of the psychological factors which leads to sexual problems. Regular sexual routines may also contribute to a lack of enthusiasm for sex.

Infections

This is another factor, which can lead to diminished sexual desire. Chronic bladder infection, vaginal or cervical infections can make sexual intercourse less desirable.
