How To Fine Tune Your Rapport Building Skills

Posted by Ayrhaven in Personal Development

In order for us to know how to match and build rapport with others, we must first be able to observe others with precision. In NLP, we call this calibration.

Calibration is a process to help us fine tune our distinctions from an objective point of view rather than a subjective point of view. Calibration is the single most important element in modeling.

How do we calibrate? First of all, our ability to calibrate comes from the various senses. Let us focus on building our ability to observe through these three basic senses, namely the visual, auditory and kinesthetic senses first.

Observe differences in body language, tonal voice, and words that are used by people and notice what difference there are in these three things that affect these people’s states.

The main objective of calibration is for you to make comparative distinction; this is similar to the game played in Sesame Street, in which the player has to figure out which person in the group is not doing the same action as the rest of the group.

The key focus for calibration is to describe, not evaluate.

For instance, if a person is sitting down, your description could sound like this, “You are crossing your right leg over your left, with your left arm crossed over your right, and your head is tilted slightly to your right.”

An evaluative judgment would sound like, “You are being defensive.” Likewise, instead of saying, “You are angry!”,you could say, “You are frowning, your arms are crossed, and you are breathing heavily.”

The test for you to determine if your statement is an evaluative judgment would be to ask yourself, “Could this behavior mean something else to someone else in the room?”

Would they disagree with my judgment? If you can find an alternative judgment, then, there is a very high chance you are making an evaluation.

Keep to the objective details best as you can.

Here are some recommended personal exercises you can do to improve your calibration skills.

Visual Calibration

One way is to compare what you friend just wore yesterday with what he is wearing today. You can also identify slight changes in a person’s breathing pattern or in a person’s sitting posture. Another way would be for you to identify different mix of cars simply by looking at its silhouette.

Auditory Calibration
For those of you who would like to do some auditory calibration, pay attention to a person’s footsteps by closing your eyes. As you do that, will you be able to identify who that person is?

If you close your eyes and stand by the side of the road, notice, would you be able to tell whether a vehicle car passing by is a 1.6 liter or 2.0 liter car, or whether it is a taxi or a van?

Kinesthetic Calibration

For those of you planning to improve your kinesthetic calibration skills, I would suggest that you visit a garment or fabric store. In the store, close your eyes and feel the different types of cloths that are available within your grasp. Feel what it is like.

Notice the texture and the feeling, the warmth, or the coolness of the particular fabric and make your judgment.

Through practicing calibration, the building of rapport will gradually become second nature enabling us establish social relationships with ease.

Don’t Worry, It Will Happen

Posted by Jim-Janowiak in Advice

Are you struggling with your internet business? Not making the money you were promised? Are you having a hard time getting started?

Believe me, these are very common problems. Tons of beginning internet marketers are having the same problems. Don’t feel alone and don’t think you won’t ever be successful at this. Others are sitting there right now trying to deal with the same problems are you are having. Know what the reality is? You’re on the right track!

The right track? How can that be? It can be because every successful internet marketer has been exactly where are. You better believe it. Although this business has a low cost of entrance, the learning curve is quite high. Putting all the software, marketing information, correct integration, right niches, and correct positioning together is a learned skill and takes time.

The business in a box doesn’t exist! The gurus forgot to tell you, didn’t they? You see, they just want to sell you bits and pieces of the puzzle. I believe they just want to sell you dreams. I’m not even sure they care if you make a dime in this business. Did they tell you the average person entering this business will have to master at least 10 new types of software? I’m starting to digress.

Well, let’s get back to you. Okay, you’re sitting there, head spinning, not knowing what to do. You are probably wondering if this business is really right for you. Nothing is working and everything seems so complicated. The fact is, because you are sitting there reading this, you believe this business might be right for you. It probably is!

Let’s review what this business really is for a minute, just in case you’ve forgotten. An internet marketing business is one of the best ways to make lots of money and have freedom of time once you master it. It takes very little money to get started and it is self-financing. An internet marketing business is not a get-rich-quick scheme. The gurus forgot to tell you that is a lot of work to learn the right techniques, the software, and the integration to make it all work. Unfortunately, there is very little good straight and to the point step-by-step training.

Back to you, help is out there. Successful internet marketers all went through exactly what you are experiencing. The reason they are successful and others are not is simply persistence. You see, the industry can’t fail you but you can fail in the industry. You fail the industry and yourself when you give up. Don’t even think about not moving forward!

Listen, if you want direct, no-nonsense and to the point information, there is a source. No BS and no hype. But you will have to do the work and arm yourself with the tools that will push your success. It won’t be easy and you will have to read, study, practice, listen and learn.

Of course, you will also have to be yourself. You will put your own spin and creativity into your business. Before you’re through, you may develop new techniques and strategies. We would like to see you succeed and have put together some basic steps for you to follow.

If you arm yourself with the proper tools and master these tools, success will be yours. Good luck and we’ll see you there!

How To Write Goals For A Successful Goal Setting Outcome

Posted by Successu7 in Goal Setting

There are likely hundreds of different ways of goal setting. However, out of all the ways of goal setting there are some important steps when writing goals which are likely to make it possible for you to achieve the goal.

Looking at the stats, we know that only around 7% of people goal set. By this the 7% are people who consciously decide on an outcome they want to achieve. However, looking at another important stat with regard to finance, we find that only 1 out of 100 becomes rich or should we say that it is the level of above a million dollars in income, multi-millions in assets, etc. And only 4 others will be financially independent.

Though goal setting does not have to be about your financial sector, it still is a good measurement. After all for many who set and achieve those big goals it generally directly or indirectly made them rich. So, it is a good way to look at both.

There are ways to get to this successful group, and by doing goal setting, I have to congratulate you, as you are only one of few who goal set. However to get into that 5% of true achievers there is a few things more to do, and these steps are essential for success.

Your goals must be written down. After all, it must be an important goal. An important goal set is one which must be written down or it will fade. Remember your goal, and write it down, this is the first point of achievement.

However, simply writing a goal down does not do much difference to the achievement. There is more to do, if you truly want this goal manifest in your life. The most important way to go about writing your goal is to be clear. So many people will wish, so many people will say I want to be rich, I want to be healthy, I want a Yacht, but so few will do the most important step - formulate, clarify, and write it down.

Upon looking at your set goal, consider what it is you really want? Is it $1,000,000? Is it a certain weight, a certain holiday, a certain Yacht? People will say they want a Yacht, but never did anything about it, apart from something aired on the Discovery Channel!

Our minds are like a great ocean; however, we need to find ways to focus. Most people go through life without controlling the ship. You are like a ship, like an airplane, a missile, and a powerful one at that. To reach your goal, you have to know the destination, and approximately how long it will take for you to get there.

If you are one of those 5% who will one day realize the results of the 5%, then you are one who is taking action, now. Everyday you take action. For you, I want to leave you with one key overlooked, and that is time.

You have to know where you are, and where you are going, and how long it could take. Though most people like you, who take action will find that the goal is not achieved in the time set, and here is where catastrophes could happen.

Most people who reach this stage will give up, because they see the goal not achieved. However, remember this is a goal which you have set, and never achieved before. Though you maybe like an airplane, a goal striving being, you have to realize that the airplane has made the journey many countless times, years upon years, and they know almost with certainty the time it will take.

If you are on a journey to a new destination, one which you have not been to before, don’t question how to goal set, instead think of yourself like Columbus. You have your goal, and work to it, you don’t know how long it will take, but you can console that it can be achieved in a lifetime.

Why Goals Fail - New Research

Posted by Amarosy in Goal Setting

There are two reasons why goals fail or we give up trying to achieve a specific goal. When I first learnt this, I knew I finally found the Holy Grail of goal achievement.

The first reason is the “Brick Wall”. Often if we make an attempt or several attempts at achieving a goal, we can hit what they call, a Brick Wall. That is often the main reason for failed goals. Too many failed attempts at reaching for a specific goal will stop us from reaching again. To overcome this, write down all the times you attempted a goal and why it failed. By identifying the causes, and by bringing them into your consciousness, as opposed to having them lie dormant and a hidden hindrance, you can then analyse the past reasons of failed attempts and start to think laterally about how to retry and this time achieve them.

The second reason is the “Unrecognised Goal”. Yes, sounds simple enough. But when we have too many unacknowledged goals in our past, we lose sight of our innate ability of great achievement. Our subconscious finally gives up. What we have to do is list all of our past goals THAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED and make a big deal about it. Yes, pat yourself on the back, go out and celebrate each achievement, acknowledge yourself for work well done. When I finally did this, my whole world turned around. And now, every time I achieve a goal - no matter how small - I make sure I congratulate myself in some way. Reward yourself, make it a real celebration. It works! Our subconscious fine-tuning needs this subtle but extremely important ongoing support.

ESTABLISHING A GOAL

To set a goal, it must have all of the following attributes to be successfully achieved:

1. It must be inspirational. This is probably the most important of all. The goal had to be inspirational to us, not someone else - but to us alone. It must make us leap for joy at the thought of achieving it. Make our hearts race at the mere thought of it. The more inspirational the goal is to us, the more easily we will achieve it.

2. It must be achievable and realistic. Although it is great to stretch our imagination a little, if the goal is subconsciously too unachievable or outside our mental boundaries of reality, we are less likely to attain what we want.

3. It must be specific. If the goal is vague or has no timelines, it lacks the motivational force for our subconscious to follow it through. A goal should always be quantified in terms of what, why, how, and especially when.

4. It must be measurable. If our goal is measurable, it enhances our ability to create feedback mechanisms to monitor, control and correct the process of achieving it.

5. It should be long-term. Yes, long-term rather than short term goals are better to achieve. Sorry to disappoint you, but the long-term goal, as unenthusiastic as that may sound, has the most meaning and most benefit to us. Short term goals, whilst easier to achieve, have a short term fulfilment effect. It’s like a quick shot, a bubble that bursts too soon and in the long term, when we tire of the quick fixes, we give up on our real long-term aspirations.

CREATING YOUR GOALS

First of all, write down all your goals for the coming year. If they are long term or may take a few steps to achieve, break them down into Action Steps - smaller, more easily attainable actions with specific dates, and list how they can be measured so you know when you have achieved them.

Secondly, give them a purpose. A wise man once said, “For every goal there must be a purpose, the higher the purpose the more likely you will achieve it”. When we give our goals a higher purpose, we automatically feel more motivated in striving towards it. For example, if you want to achieve a certain weight goal, your higher purpose could be better health and improved fitness that will make you more able and confident to achieve better work opportunities.

And finally, but most importantly, write down your ‘ideal scene’. Your Ideal Scene should describe the final outcome of your goal and demonstrate when you are on target. This ideal scene is one of the most critical steps in achieving goals because it provides your subconscious with a picture to attain.

How To Relieve Stress: 7 Ways To Relieve Stress Today

Posted by Smiacademy in Stress Management

There are plenty of resources which teach you how to relieve stress and it is no surprise. The world is a very stressful place these days. We are so busy being busy we have little time for anything else.

We are the result of a world gone crazy. Think about it. We run around like crazy all day just so we don’t have enough time. Money, success, careers and family are what drives us to keep going day in and day out and as a result we have become ’stressed out’; ticking time bombs ready to blow at any minute.

The symptoms of stress can be fatal leading to disease, chronic illness, hypertension and even heart attack. Half the time we don’t even know the kind of stress we put ourselves through. We have built in mechanisms in our bodies that help us when we are confronted with stressful situations. We were not however supposed to deal with stress all the time.

So how does one go about relieving the effects of stress on your body? In a moment you will get a chance to read 5 tips to effective stress relief but before you do there are two things that you should be doing on a daily basis to help you deal with stress.

The first thing is to get off adrenaline. One of the best tips on how to relieve stress is to plan better. There are situations in life that are unavoidable but this should be the exception and not be happening all the time. A little planning can be the best thing you can do to keep your stress levels down. Remember that your life could be on the line.

The second thing is to drink less caffeine and if you are a smoker to cut back, or better yet, quit smoking. Caffeine and Nicotine put a lot of stress on your body. Where possible try to avoid them.

Now we can work through the 5 tips to avoid stress on your mind and body.

1. Regular exercise
Regardless of what your definition of exercise is. It could be jogging or taking a long brisk walk or even doing a workout at the gym. What is critical is that you exercise on a regular basis and that you are relaxing when doing so. If you are not enjoying the exercise you are doing then there is really no point.

2. Relaxation and meditation
I know it sounds easy to say just relax or chill out but most people don’t know how to. You don’t have to know the art of meditation in order to just get a little uninterrupted time for yourself on a consistent basis.

3. Treat yourself
Ladies this does not mean go on a shopping spree. It does mean doing something for yourself. You could take some time to be alone without any distractions and just enjoy the pleasure of your own company.

4. Video and board games
Games can be a great way to relieve stress. Just be sure to avoid playing with competitive people as your game could end up being very tense and not enjoyable at all. There are some great free software games you can download off the internet that are great to help relieve stress.

5. Get some decent sleep
Get proper rest. Interrupting your sleeping habits can cause serious stress on your mind and body. Resting means not constantly thinking and worrying. It may sound impossible but you can stop yourself from reacting to the thoughts that cause you to stress.

Don’t feel pressure to start on all of these ideas just try one to start off with and make sure it works for you. It is important to relax no matter what you do. Don’t wait start today.

Success, Money And Friendships Through Self Awareness In Unleashing Your Subconscious Mind Power

Posted by Leonedward in Personal Development

If you want to be successful in life, it is important to be self aware, optimistic and to think positively. You can unleash the power of your subconscious mind to increase money, success and friends by learning how to like and accept yourself first.

This does not mean you will necessarily like everything about yourself. But anything you do not like can be changed by putting forth a bit of effort. By learning positive thinking skills and how to use your subconscious mind, you can become the person you want to be.

Self awareness is the starting point from which you can set new goals and learn new skills. Take the time to evaluate how you are traveling in life and decide what you want to change. Be honest with yourself. What would you change to become the person you want to be?

Do not be afraid to make a list of things you do not
like about yourself or about the life you are living. Once you have a written list, you can begin to set new goals to transform your life. Be positive about what you can change and achieve in order to be successful.

In order to achieve some of our goals, we may have to make some personal changes. Personal transformation is rarely easy when you begin your journey, but if you persist you will be rewarded at the end.

Your subconscious mind influences your life more powerfully than you probably realize. Since we tend to get what we focus on in life, if we think negative thoughts we are likely to experience negative things. By deliberately replacing negative thoughts with positive affirmations we can begin to change our lives.

Now that you have your goals on paper, they have become more real. They are not just wishes, they are now decisions about what you intend to achieve. For every goal you need to decide what you are prepared to do to manifest them.

This can be a challenge for many people. You first need to identify your current position before you can work out how to get from where you are to where you want to be. For example, if your goal is to enjoy your job, you need to first recognize why you do not enjoy it at present. Once you do this, you will be able to design action steps to move you from where you are to where you want to be.

Many people are simply square pegs in round holes and need to totally change careers in order to be happy. If you fit into this category, one of your goals could be to discover what you would be best suited for and then do the training it requires.

Perhaps one of your goals is to make new friends but you do not know how to do it. What do you like doing? Join a group of like minded people.

One way to make friends and alleviate stress at the same time is to join a yoga class. You can learn meditations techniques while becoming more flexible. At the same time, you will also meet others and possibly make new friends. As you improve your fitness and your social life you will probably find your self esteem improving also. As you learn to relax, you will probably find that life gets easier.

Stress affects areas of our lives we are often not even aware of. It can interfere with our ability to communicate with others and make sound decisions. Severe stress can stop us living a happy and productive life.

Self awareness is the first step towards transforming your life. It is the foundation upon which you can build goals and move toward success by using the power of your subconscious mind. Once you have achieved your goals, you will realize you have everything you need to succeed already within you.
