Breathe Into Your Stomach To Control Panic

One of the crucial things to remember while you are in a panic attack is keep breathing. It becomes extremely necessary to breathe in the course of the attack, as you need to regularize oxygen flow into the blood stream as otherwise there is a severe constraint on the efficacy of the blood flow that in turn ensures control on the mind and the body. Controlling anxiety by breathing is a possibility as the mind and the body are kept steady by such mechanism.

In the course of breathing in a panic attack, what is important is to remember that the breathing should go into the stomach and not the chest only. Panic can be stopped from repeating if such processes are maintained. However, the process of breathing into the stomach is difficult for somebody not used to it. This can in a way escalate the panic in the course of the attempts to breathe into the stomach. Thus, there should be a regular practice under normal circumstances to breathe into the stomach. Unless there is this practice under normal conditions, the person will find it hard to breathe into the stomach instead of the chest in the practice of a regular panic attack the next time.

Here are three tips that you might find useful in this regard:

* Lie down on your back. After this, fix one of your hands firmly onto your stomach and the other one lightly onto your stomach. The next time you breathe in, try to take a lot of air inside as this should fill up your stomach, not just your chest. In fact, most o the air should enter the stomach and not the chest. Do not breathe heavily or at a fast rate. In fact, practice slow breathing at not more than 6-8 times per minute. Try to relax all the while, not inviting any unwarranted for stress in course of this exercise.

* If in case the hand exercise is not enough in keeping down your stomach, try and lay some weight on it like a book weighing 4-6 pounds. The book should rise and fall with inhalation and exhalation respectively.

* In case the above two procedures have failed on you then try to walk on all four appendages that you have like a four legged animal. Relax enough in the course of this exercise too. What happens in this case is that since the chest is pressed for space the stomach automatically takes in more air than the chest.

Once you have gained sufficient practice in breathing into your stomach using one of the three procedures described above, you can prolong the period of doing this and go up to 15- 20 minutes at one go. Having accomplished this, you can try to breathe into your stomach in an upright sitting position and standing too. After this, you could extend the exercise regimen to your office hours and when you are driving or walking.

Again, do not over press yourself in the course of any of these suggested exercises. Remember that you should relax totally and you should never compromise when it comes to relaxing.

How Boomers Can Sing Rock & Roll Instead Of The Blues

The new Pew Research Center Social and Demographic Trends survey measured dissatisfaction and pessimism in close to 2500 participants. The data indicates that Baby Boomers worry more than any other generation. And a recent study from the University of Chicago suggests that the boomer generation has never really been happy. One hypothesis is that they grew up wanting to make the world a better place - and it’s not.

No one could deny that the national conversation has become depressing. Some find it hard to get up in the morning, when all they hear about is tumbling home prices, the war in Afghanistan or Iraq and record oil prices. Pundits exclaim that the American dream is dying on the vine and we are all suffering from bankrupt spirits.

But are things really that bad? What’s happening may be a natural change in the seasons of life. Cultural pain is normal in crises and perhaps the Baby Boomers just haven’t been adversity-tested. After all, isn’t necessity the mother of invention? Follow some of these suggestions as you develop your inner strength and resiliency:

1. You know about physical fitness. Apply some of these principals to becoming more emotionally fit. Discover your usual emotional pattern and start a training program. In addition to nutritious eating and regular exercise, practice noticing the negative concerns that get your attention, how you end up feeling and what active steps you can take to change your thoughts.

2. Rather than seeing the glass half empty, turn your challenges into opportunities. Release your mind from worries, most of which never happen anyway. Take it one day at a time and accomplish what you can without dwelling on the ‘what ifs.’ Worrying takes a lot of time and energy - it’s counterproductive and destroys your peace of mind.

3. Free yourself from resentment and practice how to forgive. If you hold on to grudges toward your business partner or past hurts from your friends, you’re the only one who will be miserable. Let go of feeling sorry for yourself and you’ll make room for more positive experiences. As your attitude changes, your day-to-day life will become more pleasant.

4. Embrace simplicity and appreciate what you have. Enjoy your family and colleagues. Go outside on a cloudless night and look at the beautiful sky. Take your family camping for the weekend and roast marshmallows over the fire. Eat sandwiches on a park bench with a co-worker and visit during lunch hour. Give back by volunteering at a homeless shelter, soup kitchen or a boys and girls club.

5. If you’re feeling gloomy in these roller coaster times, invite friends over for a potluck dinner and have everyone bring their signature dish. Turn the conversation into a creative and supportive revival of the spirit. Discuss innovative ways to save on groceries, to use less gas, to network for a new job.

6. Don’t expect so much. Unrealistic expectations about things and people lead to disappointment. Stuff loses its shine and appeal. Built-in obsolescence makes you a slave to the latest style and the next upgrade. It never ends, and then you feel dissatisfied with what you have. In some situations try not to expect anything, and whatever comes your way will be a blessing.

It is true that, as financial crises go, this one is very personal. But perception doesn’t always match reality. According to the Pew Research results, the boomer generation enjoys the highest incomes of any age group surveyed. They are less likely to have been laid off and less likely to have trouble paying for medical care or housing. In fact, fewer of them said that someone in their household had to go to work in the past year or take on an extra job to make ends meet.

Home prices will stabilize, oil prices could stop going up and, for all we know, the global economy may be resilient. The bottom line is that contentment is elusive for some people. In the end, it’s important to realize that fulfillment isn’t to be achieved as a goal in itself, but rather as the result of living a good life.

Determining Your Level Of Confidence

Confidence is a very broad and general term. We would all enjoy being confident, and having more confidence throughout our lives in general, but when we make this choice in our lives, it is important to define the means of confidence that we want in life. Without implementing the use of a defined goal, it is very likely that our full potential when it comes to determining your level of confidence. We all have the dream of confidence, but the only way that it will become a reality is for us to make goals and do what it takes to achieve those goals. Here, we will evaluate how you can go about determining your level of confidence.

In order to go about the process of determining your level of confidence, it is first important to ask yourself a few questions. These questions will help you determine what “confidence” means to you. Does it mean holding a certain position at work? Does it mean accomplishing a certain financial goal? Does it mean remaining positive at all times? You really have to know what confidence means to you before you can determine your level of confidence and how to achieve confidence. Let’s move on to the questions:

1. Are you the type of person that requires a lot of direction when it comes to making important decisions in your life?
2. Is it important to you to have a “support system” in place that consists of several individuals in order to make you feel more secure?
3. Are you active in meetings, or do you simply sit and listen?
4. Do you have a fear of public speaking?
5. Do you get nervous and/or anxious when it comes to meeting new people?
6. Do you have a difficult time saying “no” to your superiors, or people in general?
7. Do you suffer from approval addiction?
8. Are risks just too “risky” to even consider?
9. Are you comfortable with your appearance?
10. Do you enjoy being in the midst of many different people?

Answering these questions will actually put in perspective what level of confidence that you have. It should assist you in determining your strengths, as well as your weaknesses. It is essential that you understand what points in your personality and thoughts that you must change in order to set the appropriate goals that will allow you to increase your confidence levels.

Confidence Essentials

When it comes to increasing confidence, there are a few things that I consider to be “essentials” when it comes to your overall success. Listed below are some of these essentials:

1. First, you must sway your thinking from a negative viewpoint to a positive viewpoint. One of the most effective strategies that I feel is productive in this area is to believe that you are on a mission. No one was placed here by accident. Each and every single individual on Earth has a purpose or a “mission in life.” All those ‘negative’ things that happen and frustrate us…. those are lessons! That’s right! The mistakes, the failures, the ‘bad luck’ all of these things are put in place to assist you in the way of learning to be your very best as you journey through life!
2. You must love people! This is a simple fact - if you love people, people will love you! Take an active interest in people, find out who they are, find out what excites them in life, take some of their passion and apply it to your life! If you are able to do this, you will have an extremely high level of confidence!
3. In order to be confident, you have to love yourself! This is not conceit; this is love in the way of value!

2. Arrange your priority list

List all the activities that you need to carry out during the day and then arrange them according to their order of priority. This would make sure that the really important jobs get completed quickly and on time.

However, while preparing your to do list, be realistic and don’t set unachievable goals.So arrange your work list according to their importance.

By doing this, you will realize that half your problem is solved.

3. Plan of Action

It’s time for action. Refer to your priority list and start doing your work. All the thinking is done. Now, it’s time for you to focus on getting your work done on time.

It is so easy to get distracted with phone calls, emails or chat with a colleague who drops by.

However keep in mind that it’s very easy to get sidetracked by phone calls, chats or emails and that is why it’s important that you keep aside separate time for social networking.
Set up a fix time each day to check your emails. Don’t give in to chatting with your colleagues during work hours. As far as phone calls are concerned, unless it is really urgent, don’t take the call, just leave a message telling them that you will get back to the caller later.

In order to keep yourself stimulated, do celebrate every small and big success equally. Don’t just celebrate when there is a huge success in your life, instead do rejoice whatever you achieve, however small it be. Count your number of success and garner more energy to achieve even further.

5. Mental Preparation.

Be positive. See your forthcoming success in your mind’s eye before you actually relish it in your real life. This may sound a bit spiritual to you, but trust me, positive vibes do wonders. So if you want to achieve great result, foresee them. Don’t let negative thoughts dominate you.

If you have second thoughts about something, prepared yourself to counter the wrong and make it right. Think positive and be positive to bring out positive changes in your life.

6. Keep A Record

7. Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is dangerous. So try to overcome procrastination at all costs.
